Ricardo Magnus Osório Galvão, born in the city of Itajubá in Minas Gerais state, graduated in Telecommunications Engineering at Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF - 1969), have his Electrical Engineering master's degree from Universidade de Campinas (UNICAMP - 1979), a doctor's degree in Applied Plasma Physics by Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Associate Professor of Experimental Physics at Universidade de São Paulo (USP - 1983).
All through his career, he stood out as a researcher, professor, and advisor. As a researcher, Ricardo is a Research Productivity Fellow at the CNPq - Senior Level, Plasma Physics being one of his lines of research. His first paper was published in 1974, nowadays the total amount of published works is over 200.
Currently, he is USP’s Physics Institute Full Professor and also Post Graduate professor at Brazilian Center for Physical Research (CBPF). He was Post Graduate professor at Centro Técnico Aeroespacial (CTA) and Universidade de Campinas.
Throughout his whole scientific career, he served as Master’s advisor for twenty-one graduated students, being the first one in 1979, and doctoral advisor for twenty more, with the first one in 1982.
Ricardo won 11 prizes related to his scientific contributions, among them, the Sandoval Vallarta of Physics Prize, at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP).
Ricardo Galvão’s expressiveness to Brazilian science is immeasurable, far more than his curriculum, he inspires and motivates many young scientific students today.
